The Dog Park is a traditional message board. Even if you've never used a message board before, the discussion features are designed to look similar to an email or word processing program.
Starting a new discussion and replying to others is mostly the same, except for the first step.
To start a new discussion, first, navigate to the forum where you want to post and click the big "Start new topic" button at top right. If you don't know where to post, General Dog Talk is always a safe bet, but you can start discussions inside clubs or other areas too!
To reply to another person, you can scroll to the bottom of a page and start typing in the box where it says, "Reply to this topic..." or click on "Quote" just below that person's post. If you quote a person, they will be notified of your response.
Writing your message
However you start your message, go ahead and type it up in the text editor that appears. It should look something like this on desktops:
You can apply basic formatting, add links, or upload images. Here's what the icons from left to right above the text box do:
- Add a link
- Bulleted list
- Numbered list
- Left, center, or right justification
There are a few ways to add an image to your post (like a cute dog pic!)
You can upload one of your own by clicking the prompt below the text box near the paperclip. This will prompt you to upload your image from your device. Once uploaded, the picture should appear below the text box. Then, place the cursor in the text box where you want the image to appear and then click "Insert" just below your uploaded picture. That's it!
You can also add a picture without uploading by clicking the "Other Media" button. This lets you use a URL from somewhere else (it must be publicly accessible, so private Facebook pics won't work, for example) or re-use a picture that you've already used before.
Follow a topic to get notifications
Just before you finish, you can choose to flip on the toggle to be notified of replies. The notification will appear at the top of the page here at the Dog Park unless you choose to receive email notifications.
Need advanced features?
The discussion features are kept to basics just to keep things simple, but if you have an idea for something different, please don't hesitate to reach out to an administrator like @Eric L. for help.
